The Stuff that MattRs

Monday Motivation. Let this week be the one where you add ANOTHER useful feedback technique to your toolbox. The COIN method is a superb framework for delivering any kind of feedback, and can be used to solicit feedback as well.  For more feedback mastery, check out my series.

Optimism. How to make decisions like an optimist. Found in the excellent For the Interested Newsletter from Josh Spector. I find something interesting almost every day from Josh in my inbox.

FreeTen free sites that you should be bookmarking. This is part five of my quest to find you the best tools that you don’t have to shell out for!

Tasks. Time to ditch the to-do list, and try the alphabet method instead. A novel and usable approach to scheduling your work.

WFH. If you want to be successful when working from home, separate the work from the home. A new study shows that the 'better the boundaries, the better the outcomes'.

Success. Hot on the heels of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, 11 Olympians share their secrets for success. Bonus Stuff: Here’s what top olympians eat (clue - they eat a LOT)

Five. How to change your life in five seconds. I like this simple strategy to get your thinking OUT of your amygdala and into your upper brain. Genius. Bonus stuff: Ways to regulate your emotions using meta cognition.

Log Off. An argument for logging off. A clever explanation of why closing down your information circle might be good for your wellbeing.  I’ve taken a few steps in this area over the last year, and have found a real benefit.

Slow. The rise of the slow living movement. Doing nothing intentionally is one of the hardest things to achieve, but there are some real benefits to taking time to be idle.

Stress. The ultimate stress relief cheat sheet. Some excellent actionable advice on how to calm down.

Life. The Scale of Life. This great website shows you both the scale, and the pace of life on earth. If you’ve ever wanted to know the global consumption of seafood, measured in units of Arnold Schwarzenegger, then this is the site.

Finally. Factle is a daily trivia game where you need to rank the top five in a given category. Simple to play, but frustrating to get right. There is also a sports version.

Have you tried Flow Stuff? It's my ever growing and changing playlist of music for concentration and relaxation. 35 hours of mostly beatless and wordless music. You can follow along here.

πŸ”ˆ Stuff to Listen to...

🎧 This week, my musical recommendation is the outstanding new album from Fink, a British singer-songwriter I have tracked since their debut with Biscuits for Breakfast in 2006.

Beauty In Your Wake is a great collection of ten downtempo, but uplifting tracks with simple picked guitars across some rich soundscapes. The joy here is in the lyrics, and the gentle structure of the songs.

Everything from Fink is highly recommended, and this is an excellent continuation of some great albums.
