The Stuff that MattRs

Monday Motivation. Let this week be the one where you increase your skills for dealing with the unknown. How you deal with ambiguity at work can be a key to your success, and it is one of the top competencies that companies interview for.  Bonus Stuff: Ten more ways to deal with ambiguity at work.

Free. Another ten free sites that you should be bookmarking. Part five of my quest to find you the best tools that you donโ€™t have to shell out for!

Goals. The ABC Goal system. An excellent framework for setting goals that adapt with your success. This system can be applied to both work and personal goals and is simple to implement.

Remote. A code of conduct for working remotely. I really like this, after a week of travelling for work Iโ€™ve seen plenty of people in airport lounges and coffee shops, and a few rules wouldnโ€™t go amiss. Bonus Stuff. Why written communication is so important when working remotely.

Pivot. When is the right time to make a career pivot? Knowing when is as important as knowing what change you will make. Bonus Stuff. It is never too late. This five minute scene has stuck with me.

Email. How to write an email with military precision. There is a lot to like about the techniques that the US military employs to write very precise communications.

Boundaries. How to say no, and stay happy.  This subject comes up a lot (#114 and #160), and yet people still struggle to set the boundaries they need. Gretchen Rubin has some great practical advice.

Generous. I featured a list like this a while ago, and it remains one of my most clicked links. Fifty ways to be generous. If you canโ€™t be generous today, how about forty ways to be randomly kind?

Advice. Thirty-two pieces of unsolicited advice.  #14, #19 and on behalf of my wife #28 are the ones that resonate with me.

Rest. Why great sleep is the ally of creativity. A reminder of why sleep is so important to your well being AND your career. Here are my top tips for hacking your sleep hygiene.

Politics. I donโ€™t touch politics at all. However these five ways to take care of your mental health feel like common sense in current news cycles.

Finally. Moviely. Another interesting daily game where you need to guess your way to a movie based on data points from iMDB. Start with any movie, and itโ€™ll help you get closer with clues. Tip - start with something from the  mid-Nineties and made in the US - thatโ€™ll help.  As I wrote this, it took me six guesses to get to John Wick.

๐Ÿ”ˆ Stuff to Listen to...

๐ŸŽง This week, my musical recommendation is the new album from Irish musician and videographer - Myles Oโ€™Reilly.

Music from the Threshold is a gentle, electronic album made mainly on one synthesiser whilst Myles travelled the West Coast of Ireland.

This is beautiful ambient music that lends itself well to relaxing with a book as autumn starts to appear on the horizon.

I think this one is beautiful, and a highly recommend.
