Stuff Mixtape #27 is another collection of random tunes that were in my ears during July.
Here's why each of these amazing tunes made it into my playlist.
- Uummati Attanarsimat - Elisapie | This beautiful Inuktitut cover version was a constant listen in July, stunning.
- O Astronauta de Mármore - Nenhum De Nós | Continuing on foreign language cover versions, this Bowie cover from Brazil is a cracker.
- Bang Bang - Betty Chung | Finishing off a fine trio is this Nancy Sinatra cover via Hong Kong.
- Love Me Or Die - C.W. Stoneking | This was the closing credits of a comedy series I watched, brilliant Australian blues.
- Plateau - Meat Puppets | I was reminded somehow of the Nirvana cover of this, and I went back to learn about the original.
- Cuidado - Ki! & Charlotte Schultz | A Danish/Korean producer with an beautifully summery sound that reminded me of Khruangbin.
- AMAMA - Crumb | New York Psych chillout.
- You Belong to Me - Patsy Cline & The Jordanaires | The closing credits of 'Fly me to the Moon', this stuck in my head for days after seeing the movie.
- I'll Never Learn - The Shangri-Las | Played over a funeral scene in the Bikeriders, I didn't really know this track but a great listen.
- Grin - BAYNK | Beautifully produced and sung, reminded me of Cigarettes after Sex or Rhye.
- Black Water - EmilÃana Torrini | I love this voice, and the latest album is stunner. Particularly enjoy the spoken word on this track.
- Aline - Jarvis Cocker | Jarvis covering 1960's French singer Christophe.
- Pia Dance - Yin Yin | Indonesian style funk via the Netherlands. Unmissable.
- Slinky - Molly Lewis | There is not enough whistling in music today, but Molly Lewis is bringing it back, especially on this dreamy, drifty tune that makes me think of sunny beaches.
- Destiny - Joe Goddard & Findia | The new album from Goddard has been on heavy repeat here, and this track could be my favourite - uplifting and anthemic, with great vocals.
- Gem Lingo (ovr now) - Overmono, Ruthven | A dancefloor BEAST of a tune, with an insane bassline. The sound of dancefloors everywhere.
- All You Children - Jamie xx & Avalanches | New album on the way, and this beaut of a track is a gift. Love it.
- Balloon Ranger (Live) - Ane Brun | One of my favourite Scandi singers, this live version of her anthem from 2004 is fantastic.
- Together - Nine Inch Nails | S3E1 of the Bear used this track to great effect, and it sends us home from Stuff 27
