Stuff Mixtape #28 is another collection of random tunes that were in my ears during August 2024.
Here's why each of these amazing tunes made it into my playlist.
- Feel - Sega Bodega, Isamaya Ffrench | Stumbled across this great album of heavily vocoded cover versions, I love this take on Robbie Williams' classic.
- Dead from the Waist Down - Julia Jacklin | Another cover version from this Australian singer-songwriter.
- Would You? - Holly Throsby & Bonnie Prince Billy | Stand out track from the Holly Thorsby album, with the lovely Prince Billy vocals.
- Lost in the Plot (Acoustic) - The Dears | One of my all-time favourite bands and consistently under rated. The Dears are back with an acoustic version of their 2003 banger.
- Atlas, Eyes - Illumine/Will Samson | Beautiful ambient guitar and fragile vocals, a moment of tranquility in a busy month.
- Deux Paradis - Domenique Dumont | Mysterious French (?) vocals and instrumentation from the Leaf Label.
- Don't get me started - The Smile | From a forthcoming album (two in a year!), the Radiohead offspring project is both menacing and delicate at the same time. Beautiful drums.
- Seize the Day - Wax Tailor | More Frenchness, effortlessly cool and the perfect soundtrack for a hot summer day. Sounding like the Avalanches with a beret.
- Rafters - Antony Szmierek | From a stuff mixtape favourite, Manchester flavoured rap with a message. I love the image of a single piece of confetti.
- Want you Back - London Soul Exchange | Perfectly emulating the sound of late 90's funky house music from the UK, fantastic, soaring vocals on this dancefloor banger.
- Daymaxxing - Physical Therapy & Patrick Holland | Gliding piece of beach house that sounds as good by the pool as on a late-night dancefloor.
- State 20 - Ben Lukas Boysen | Glacial piece of electronica that seems to fit in so many genres.
- Then be content (Mvt 2) - Erland Cooper | Stunning piece of classical music, wild and windswept. Taken from an album where the mastertapes were deliberately buried for year to absorb the sound of nature. Yep.
- Crows - Talos (feat Lisa Hannigan) | Stand out track from an artist we tragically lost in August, Talos leaves a library of amazing music.
- Cuimhne Guilinn - David Murphy | To take us home, a gentle piece of Irish music.
