Stuff Mixtape #29 is another collection of random tunes that were in my ears during September 2024.
Here's why each of these amazing tunes made it into my playlist.
- Look me in the Eyes - Rex Orange County feat James Blake | Two outstanding voices together on this delicate and beautiful piano led duet.
- Vaporous - Elsiane | Sort of trip-hop-esque, recalling Hooverphonic, loads of fretless bass and keyboard washes taking me back in time.
- The future is our way out - Brigitte calls me baby | Timewarped crooning romanticism - constant earworm in September.
- I've been Thinking - Handsome Boy Modelling School with Cat Power | Super producers gonna produce - a laidback funk tune that drops with sunshine.
- Clementine - Yannis and the Yaw | Excellent collaboration between the lead singer of the Foals and the late Tony Allen on drums. Superb worldy pop.
- About Her - Malcolm McClaren | Legendary punk manager pulls together a Moby influenced tune for the soundtrack of Kill Bill 2.
- Show Me Love - Foreign Fields | Gossamer light vocals and production on this beauty.
- Glimpse - Future Islands | Stuff favourites Future Islands back with this awesome 80's influenced track. Samuel T Herring sounding as excellent as ever.
- Dafodil - Jamie XX | Highlight from the new Jamie XX album mentioned in #206. Breaks, bassline and some extraordinary samples.
- In my Dreams - Four Tet & Ellie Goulding | Crunchy drums and squealing keyboards align with echo-y rave vocals.
- Eusexua - FKA Twigs | Superb comeback track from forthcoming 'techno-inspired' album.
- Black Poppies - Underworld | heavily processed stream of consciousness from sons of Essex. Brilliant return.
- Juliet as Epithet - Hamish Hawk | Dramatic, glamorous power pop with a lovely sense of humour.
- Till Then - The Frightnrs | Vintage sounding rocksteady from 2016 New York [TRACK OF THE MONTH]
- Someone Like You - Lukas Nelson, Sierra Farrell and the Travelling McCourys | Stunning bluegrass cover version of Adeles seminal track, with superb guest vocals from Sierra Farrell.
- You - RYX & Hermanos Gutiรฉrrez | Gentle, breathy chillout tune featuring guitars from a duo first seen in #196.
- Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker - I never learned French | Reminds me a lot of Laura Marling, excellent folk inspired tune.
- La Ritournelle - Jono McCleery | Another superb cover version, this time of Sebastian Telliers Ibiza classic in gentle singer-songwriter style.
- Lets wade in the Water - Marlena Shaw | Classic Northern soul track that appeared in a TV show I was enjoying.
- Like a Bird - Adrian Quesada & Abraham Alexander | Great bluesy soul track taken from the Soundtrack of Sing Sing
- The Wizard - Jimmie Rodgers | To bring us home, fantastic vintage track from the 1960s.
