Stuff Mixtape #31 is slightly shorter and tighter collection of random tunes that were in my ears during October 2024.
Here's why each of these amazing tunes made it into my playlist.
- Young Lion - Sade | A return from the beautiful voice of Sade with song for her Trans son. Superb.
- Dying Star - Caoilfhinn Rose | Stand out track from a great new artiste who was my recommendation of the week in Stuff #214.
- Gold (Synths and Strings) - Tusks | Presented to me by an algorithm, beautiful chilled track with choral voices and violins. Recommended.
- Like the End - James Blake | Stunning new track from a Stuff favourite, a voice that keeps on giving.
- Girl in Amber - Neil Smith & The Flaming Lips | A few weeks after seeing Nick Cave live, this cover version emerged from somewhere, very well done.
- Mystery or Misery? - Vegyn | Always with the shimmering keys, and the slightly distorted drums - epic electronica.
- Nameless - Hak Baker | Sound of London, love this laidback sprechgesang insight into a pastoral life.
- Lavender, Raspberries - Porridge Radio | The other side of London, great vocals on this indie anthem.
- Renegade - Doves | A welcome return from Jimi and the boys - looking forward to hearing the rest of this new album.
- Be the Hammer - Andrew Wasylyk | Alter ego of former Hazey Janes singer Andrew Mitchell - paired with vocals from Aiden Moffat of Arab Strap - like a scottish indie super group.
- Completement Fou - Yelle | From a friends playlist during a ride through the outskirts of rainy Birmingham, this bubble gum French pop sounds perfect.
- Moda Disko - Kazy Lambist | Beautiful pop from this inclusive artiste from the South of France.
- Under Belly - Blawan | I had forgotten about this bass-led banger from UK DJ/Produce Blawan, but it sounded excellent in the warmup before the Idles gig.
- Luther - Kendrick Lamar & Sza | Surprise album from Kendrick, this was my early favourite with a lovely Luther Vandross sample.
- Baltimore - Talos and Atli รrvasson | Posthumous music from Cork based Talos who left us in 2024.
- Nobody Loves you More - Kim Deal | Stand out track from Pixies bass player Kim Deal on her new solo project.
