Stuff Mixtape #34 is small but mighty, reflecting the short month and the move toward the end of winter.
Here's why each of these incredible tunes made it into my playlist.
- Major Tom (Völlig losgelöst) - Peter Schilling | All over the TV on a commercial at the moment, a forgotten signal from the 80's.
- Don't get Me Started (James Holdem Mix) - The Smile | From the savage drumline to the haunting vocal, this is a perfect remix.
- Orchestra - Brian Ferry & Amelia Barratt | An album which seems to be spoken word pieces over light instrumentals with Ferry vocals. Riveting stuff.
- Back in the Game - Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke | Pulsating, throbbing electronica with a typical Thom Yorke vocal.
- Arrhythmia - Loma | Beautiful Piano, brushed drums and an ethereal vocal make for an enchanting collaboration.
- Blind Tunnel - The Last River Bottomed Fig Plucker | Stand out track from recent Stuff recommended album.
- Genevieve - Chris Eckman | Stunning solo material from lead singer of Seattle based rock/folk band The Walkabouts. Reminds me of Lanegan in places.
- Its amazing to be young - Fontaines DC | New material from Dublin based post-rock sprechegesang gods. Jangle-pop guitars make this a signal of spring.
- Live Forever - Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory | Sharp, electronic and beautifully produced - a new direction for Van Etten. Wins the key change of the month.
- Do it Again (True Electric) - Röyksopp (feat Robyn) | Fresh lease of life for this classic ScandiPop banger. From the forthcoming live album.
- Talk to Me - Keeley Forsyth | New material inbound from British Actor/Singer Forsyth. Reminiscent of Scott Walker circa Tilt, this album looks really interesting.
- Florist - Brian Ferry & Amelia Barratt | A final taste of the new material from Bryan Ferry, as enigmatic as always.
