Hey everyone, I’m Matt!
I haven't asked for a while, but if you could forward this newsletter to 1 or 2 friends and get them to subscribe - I'd be super grateful!
My goal is to help you get the best out of yourself. Each week, I seek out great content to support our personal growth. I’ll couple that with some links that I know you’ll find interesting AND a musical recommendation.
Elsewhere, you can find my daily notes here, and I’m posting on Threads as well.
Thanks for joining me - now, onto the list!
Monday Motivation. Let this week be the one where you 10x your communication by learning the difference between impact and intent. Some excellent advice for anyone who needs to maximise their comms.
Focus. As much as multitasking seems like a good idea, it really isn’t good for the way you work. Here are ways to stop multitasking and become way more productive.
Notes. Science explains why writing things down helps you remember more than typing notes. I’m a massive advocate for handwriting my notes, now I know why.
Dunning-Kruger. Why we have over confidence in novices. And why real experts are often humble. Most importantly, what we can do about this cognitive bias.
Success. The seven laws of success. #3 is particularly important, if you can master this one, you’ll be more successful, but also happier all round.
Action. 185 action verbs that you should use on your CV or Resume. These are the words that can help your resume standout to hiring managers.
Leadership. Want to be a better leader? Then learn to switch off when you finish work for the day.
Relaxation. If you’ve had a tough day, head over to Pluvior for something truly relaxing. Put your browser on full screen and tune the view and soundtrack, for a perfect storm.
Joy. How small pleasures can produce moments of rapture.
Names. "Edith" is okay, "Judith" is not. How Iceland governs the names that can be used.
Eclipse. Excellent piece of data visualisation that shows the path and timing of every eclipse. None in Europe for a while, but in the US, it’s nearly here!
Sky. Every day, a new painting of the sky. Beautiful stuff.
Pi. In honour of Pi Day, draw a perfect circle freehand. Very tricky indeed.
Finally. Riddler, a clever work link game that uses AI to give you clues. Very well implemented.
🔈 Stuff to Listen to...
🎧 This week's aural treat is the excellent new album from Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet.
Honed on massive tours with Fred again... and Skrillex, Hebden has put together a collection that treads the line between glitchy house and ambient, creating a sounds that is arena friendly and listenable at home.
'Three' opens with the beautiful 'Loved' and takes us on an 8 track journey, blending beautiful keyboard sounds with danceable rhythms.
Highly recommended album for springtime to come!
Stuff someone said.
Work for something because it is good, not just because it stands a chance to succeed.
