Welcome to a new week, it's great to have you here. If you enjoy this edition, please consider forwarding to someone you think might ♥️ it.
Each week, I seek out great content to support our personal growth. I’ll couple that with some links that I know you’ll find interesting. If you want to reach me, hit reply or comment below, and I’m posting on Threads as well.
Thanks again for joining me - now, onto the list!
Monday Motivation. Let this week be the one where you work on your video interview skills. I’m continuing my series on how to master the interview process, and this week I’ll focus on the pesky video calls - whether it’s the first screening, or your 100th video interview - I have tips that can really help maximise your impact.
Imposter. What people get wrong about imposter syndrome. I like this breakdown of misconceptions about imposter syndrome, particularly #3 - it’s a state, not a trait. If you can remember this while you are working through a tricky situation, it will help frame up your next action.
Work. Are you a workaholic? Here’s how to spot the signs, and what to do if you think that you might be.
Habits. Start small. When you are starting a new habit, knowing your minimum effective dose is a really good tactic.
Leadership. An excellent illustrated guide to why leaders fail. I liked this simple way of showing some of the key reasons why Leaders struggle.
Mindstate. Exploring the ‘future-ready’ mindstate. I’ve long been an advocate for a growth mindset, but the suggestion that we should have an even more agile approach makes sense, especially in our increasingly VUCA world.
Thinking. Twelve areas of life where you can embrace ‘outside the box’ thinking. Some of these aren’t too radical, but some good thinking in here. I’ve embraced a few of these, I don’t own a car, have only one child and rent my house - and I definitely subscribe to the final suggestion : “Give a fuck about far fewer things, especially things that don’t matter.”
Wisdom. Seventeen stoic lessons that will make you wise and wealthy. #1, #4 and #12 are particularly good pieces of advice.
Emotions. How to look after your emotional health, take an audit and take action on where you have been neglecting your emotional needs.
Life. Seven rules for a better life from Einstein. By anyone's standards, Albert Einstein was an overachiever, this explains how he got shit done. I live rule #5, and it's one I try to keep.
Go. Learn how to play go. It’s one of the oldest board games still played today, originating in about 2500BC in China. This great little site, explains the rules and introduces you to this fascinating strategy game.
Finally. What the art? A clever little game from Google where you have to guess a drawing of some favourite art, you can play solo or against friends.
🔈 Stuff to Listen to...
🎧 This week, my musical suggestion is something quite unusual. Chimet is an album by a data scientist, musician and sailor who goes by the name of MINING.
Chimet takes data from a weather buoy in the English Channel and turns it into sound - then adds piano, and cello over the top. The data stream here includes weather information taken during Hurricane Ophelia in 2017, the worst storm to hit Ireland in 50 years and battered the British Coast as well.
The output is sinister, melancholy and unsettling in places - but the electronics sound amazing and the overlaid melodies are beautiful.
I highly recommend getting this stuff into your ears.
