This week, I learned that it is still 2016 in Ethiopia. Due to some quirks in the way that time is recognised in the country, and strong sense of national identity.

On September 11, Ethiopians will officially celebrate the beginning of the year 2017. So why is this East African country’s calendar seven years and eight months β€œbehind” the rest of the world?
