Hey, Matt here...
Welcome to 2025!
I've deliberately stayed out of your inbox to ensure a full disconnect. The regular newsletter will start again next Monday, but I want to check-in and wish everyone a very Happy New Year!
I use the time between the Holidays and New Year to reflect and celebrate success. In 2023, and 2024, I set some intentions for the New Year.
I also completed my annual review and some of the steps in my 'Build Your Best Year' process as a way of reconfirming my values and thinking afresh about the year to come.
This year, my intentions are: Service, Enough and Simplify.
Theme #1 - Service
I believe in Servant Leadership, and take my role as a people manager very seriously. I started building on that in 2024 with my coaching journey, and I'll continue to deliver content and resources here as a service to you.
I'm going to refine and improve where I can be of service, and commit to improving what I can deliver here, through my work and in my coaching practice.
Theme #2 - Enough
I have spent a lot of time in 2024 talking to people about what it means to be happy, and a theme that has emerged frequently is the idea of having 'enough'.
I'm blessed to have a good life, and my intention this year is to focus on what 'enough' means, and know when I might be trying a bit too hard for more.
Theme #3 - Simplify
This one is a repeat of a 2023 intention. I think I succeeded in making my life simpler then, and I believe it could be even easier in 2025.
My intention this year is to continue to reduce open loops (covered in #199), and reduce more friction in my work & life processes. I'll ask myself the same three questions regularly:
- What if this (action, task, process) was simple?
- How can I make this easier?
- What would it mean if I didn't do this at all?
No Resolutions
Once again, I'm not making resolutions.
I don't like the idea that a resolution needs to be kept or failed. I prefer intentions that set my direction for the year, and then building small habits and systems that will support those intentions.
See you all next week for the first Stuff of the Year!
Take care,
