About 25 years ago, I was a new manager working on an Internal Helpdesk team. After about 4 months in the job, I got sent on a one-day training course called ‘Coaching for Performance’. I got given a shiny new book, and after 8 hours working through the GROW model I was ‘officially’ a coach. I felt empowered to make a positive impact on those around me.

Fast forward some years, and I’ve supported lots of teams, and I’ve developed my own coaching style and toolset.  However, there is always room for a lot of improvement, and so I’m practising what I preach and going back to get some formal learning and accreditation.

In October, I started a year-long journey with the Coach Institute of Ireland for a Diploma in Business and Executive Coaching.  Alongside a group of other professionals, I’ll be spending time learning the techniques and tools to help me deliver professional coaching to colleagues and clients.

We’ve started digging into some foundation work on CoActive coaching, and we’re already working with peers to practice what we’re learning.  I’ve started on the reading list and worked through the CoActive Coaching textbook over the last weeks.

I’ll be journaling my experiences on the course here, and I’ll be bringing some of what I have learned to my regular newsletters. I’m excited to build on my coaching skills, and get some structure around my coaching practice.
